the pittman hotel.

Once the center of social life for the Black community of Dallas, the addition and renovation of the Knights of Pythias Temple into a hotel both literally and figuratively reconnects the past and the present. Anchored by the historic structure on the corner, the addition kinks as it extends north to capture pedestrian movement and define a modern gateway into the neighborhood. The active streetscape of the area is connected to the building with ground floor retail, bar, restaurant, outdoor dining, and pool deck reestablishing the building as the center of social life in Deep Ellum.
