balfour lofts

Inspired by the architecture and legacy of the former Johnny Balfour TV repair shop on the site, this 99-unit multi-family housing project is being used as a test case for the City of Arlington as they develop a form-based zoning code.  An exploration of the formal, spatial, and surface effect of different electronic waveforms at various scales informs the design.  Historic signage is repurposed as urban artwork, marking exterior stairways, paseos, and covered outdoor patios to encourage social interaction among residents and extend the urban activity of downtown Arlington eastward.
